Yes. My lifelong dream has been realized and I can die happy. Kylie Minogue and my one true love Jason Donovan have been reunited in a performance of Especially For You.
Kylie took to the stage tonight, helping to raise cash for Sport Relief as she sang the song live for the first time in 25 years. After much speculation of who the pint sized pop star would be singing with, David Williams appeared first, dressed as 80’s Jason in stone washed jeans and black hat, complete with a blonde wig and a dazzling set of teeth.
Then Jason himself appeared and all coherent thought was lost as I flashed back to 1988, sitting in my best friends bedroom recording the track from the radio while studying our Neighbors quiz cards. Needless to say she was one of the first to comment on my hysterically over excited Facebook status this evening. I screamed. Loudly.
But if Kylie thought Jason was singing especially for her (see what I did there?) she was mistaken as Jason headed straight for the arms of David Williams and the pair sidelined Kylie and sang to each other. Aw. Poor Kylie!
I can’t tell you how much I enjoyed this. I mean…seriously…this is everything to me. I grew up watching Kylie and Jason as Scott and Charlene on Neighbors, I’ve followed both their music careers since, and I stalk..erm..follow Jason avidly. I fear I may not ever be over this performance and the adorably cute photo Kylie posted on twitter after the event.
Sport Relief raises money for charities in Africa and the UK through the use of sport and comedy, and audiences were also treated to the rather delicious David Beckham appearing in an Only Fools and Horses sketch, which was hilarious and Becks did an excellent job. It is now available to download.
