Cheers to another day of celebrating Glee‘s 100th Episode!

This list doesn’t do the show justice at all, as there are plentiful amazing covers to go around, but I’ve rounded up the top 15 ones that I listen to all the time and the ones that have affected me the most. I can’t say there is a particular order, although there is a mix of sad and happy songs; I honestly adore them all in different ways. And as a Gleek, it’s only fair to share the list with my other fellow Gleeks!

15. “Here Comes The Sun” – Dani and Santana
Season 5, Episode Two – “Tina In The Sky With Diamonds”

Do I really need to explain why this song is great? I mean, we all know Demi Lovato is a fantastic singer, especially when it comes to these uplifting and mellow types of songs. I was also so happy to see Santana find love once again in the city of dreams.

14. “Let It Be” – Rachel, Santana, Kurt, Dani and the New Directions
Season 5, Episode Two – “Tina In The Sky With Diamonds”

Pretty sure I teared up a little to see them all so joyful and happy… and who knew it was the calm before the storm, huh? Not to mention I’m also a big sucker for covers where everyone gets a part in singing it, and how the song also applies for everyone. The cover is such a great rendition of the classic Beatles song, and I have to admit, as much as I adore the Beatles, I listen to this version more often.

13. “Hey Jude” – New Directions
Season 5, Episode Two – “Tina In The Sky With Diamonds”

Clearly, I love the Beatles a lot, and okay, I think I teared up here, as well. It was the sweetest scene too, after Tina gets dumped with a pile of red slushie. It’s also such a fun song to sing along with, especially when they all happily sing “then you’ll begin to make it better, better, better, better…” gradually louder and more excitingly. Which is only right, as the entire scene, especially for Tina, got much better! And I’m pretty sure Tina had one of the best nights of her high school life.

12. “The Scientist” – Finn, Rachel, Blaine, Kurt, Santana, Brittany, Will Schuester, and Emma Pillsbury
Season Four, Episode 4 – “The Break-Up”

Another beautiful cover from a heartbreaking episode; everyone had either broken up or were negotiating serious issues at this point. But as I mentioned earlier, I really appreciate the songs that feature a whole lot of the cast rather than just one or two characters. The song really doesn’t do the singers justice though. As much as I enjoyed the cover, I was pretty disappointed Will and Emma only got a couple of shared lines, as well as the vast majority of them, aside from Rachel and Finn. Regardless, the cover and performance itself was absolutely beautiful, and it’s one of the scenes I keep going back to and watching.

11. “No Surrender” – Puck
Season Five, Episode Three – “The Quarterback”

This was a really nice song in dedication to Finn’s passing away, and I cried like a baby. Especially the way Puck looked at the empty chair at where Finn used to sit, and even without watching the scene and simply listening to the song, that’s all I see in my head. It’s just how powerful Puck’s voice is; so raw and emotional. It was a really fitting cover, too, for Puck and Finn’s friendship.

10. “Make You Feel My Love” – Rachel
Season Five, Episode Three – “The Quarterback”

Okay, this scene I cried like crazy. Like, I couldn’t even contain my emotions, and although I can’t say I was as upset as Rachel, I sure as hell cried as much as she did. And like in the previous song, whenever I listen to this, all I can see is Rachel singing to Finn. It’s so upsetting, I know, and I promise this will be the last song on the list that I’ll talk about crying, but seriously, this cover is just insanely beautiful.

9. “Say A Little Prayer” – Quinn, Santana, and Brittany
Season One, Episode Two – “Showmance”

Now back to the happier, jazzier stuff. I love this song, and Quinn, Santana, and Brittany did an excellent job in this audition. The song really gave Quinn a chance to highlight her voice, and all of them for that matter. The harmonies were right on cue, and every note was just perfect. What a great first impression, huh? It’s a shame this was so short, I definitely would’ve loved to listen to a longer version of this. Not to mention the original song by Aretha Franklin is one of my favorite songs, too.

8. “Defying Gravity” – Kurt and Rachel
Season One, Episode 9 – “Wheels”

Although the 100th episode features Kurt, Rachel, and Mercedes singing “Defying Gravity” with no mistakes, the duet version (Kurt and Rachel) will always be the favorite for me. It’s Rachel and Kurt’s iconic diva-off song, and come on, we all know Kurt could’ve done that song perfectly. Those were the good days huh; I miss Rachel and Kurt being petty with each other for the lead roles, but I’m happier that they are good friends now.

7. “I Feel Pretty/Unpretty” – Rachel and Quinn
Season Two, Episode 18 – “Born This Way”

This really was a brilliant mash-up of West Side Story‘s “I Feel Pretty” and “Unpretty” by TLC, not to mention it definitely fit with the scene well. In case you forgot, this is the part Rachel contemplates getting a nose job after having it (accidentally) wrecked by Finn. These are two beautiful girls with amazing voices though, and I was so excited for the girls after seeing Quinn bond so well with Rachel. This was more than just a song for me, but it really tells listeners that no matter what you buy and do to yourself to make yourself “pretty”, at the end of the day you won’t like yourself if you don’t accept the way you are anyway.

6. “Somebody To Love” – New Directions
Season One, Episode 5 – “The Rhodes Not Taken”

Although the voices of New Directions have come a long way since Season One, I absolutely love this rendition of Queen’s “Somebody To Love”. As much as I also have to agree with some that have said that no one can sing this better than Queen, I still really appreciate this cover. They all look so innocent and happy in this performance… and ah, seeing Finn and Rachel so happy brings back so many great memories from the show. And woo, props to Mercedes for belting out “can anybody find me somebody to love” with her powerful voice. It gives me chills every time I hear her do that.

5. “Beth” – Puck, Finn, Artie, Mike, & Matt
Season One, Episode 20 – “Theatricality”

I thought this was the sweetest song Puck could dedicate to Quinn; it explains their situation pretty well; Puck is the bad boy that’s always out to play, and Quinn is the one waiting and wanting. But Puck also meant he wanted to be there for when Quinn gives birth, as well as to name their baby “Beth”. Isn’t that the sweetest thing? And I’ve gotta say, they sang KISS’ song pretty darn well.

4. Somewhere Over The Rainbow – Will and Puck
Season One, Episode 22 – “Journey To Regionals”

I fell in love as soon as I heard the ukulele strum out. It’s a fantastically adorable cover, and it was a really nice opportunity to see a more mellow side of Puck! The cover itself was truly uplifting, especially in preparation for Regionals. It was also this performance that gave Gleeks a chance to see past Puck’s bad boy image and look a little deeper into his character as a whole, or for me anyway. I know I absolutely fell in love with his voice during this… and maybe him too. It’s too bad he was gone for a good season… but I’m so glad I get to see him again!

3. “Mine” – Santana
Season Four, Episode Four – “The Break-Up”

It was honestly rare to see Santana have a solo (back in Season Four), so I definitely did not take this cover for granted. It fits her voice so well; so raw and full of emotion. And I must say, Santana looks absolutely stunning as always, even with tears streaming down her cheeks. Although I was never entirely sure as to exactly how serious Santana and Brittany’s relationship was, I’m now for certain this dedication by Santana said it all.

2. “Teenage Dream” – Blaine
Season Four, Episode Four “The Break-Up”

Although my list doesn’t necessarily have a particular order, this is definitely one of my ultimate favorites. And I’m sure you Gleeks may have a clue as to why.

This is another one from the teary-eyed “Break-Up” episode. The tone and emotions are so real in this. Everything about Blaine’s voice was so magical and wonderful and authentic in this scene. It’s indescribable. To be honest, I don’t even think they did any editing to this scene either. I know I said there would be no more tearful moments on this list, but there is no doubt I was crying my eyeballs out when I was watching this, and somehow it was also this scene that made me realize that not only had something changed between Klaine, but between Finn and Rachel as well. It’s a really heartbreaking moment that I keep going back to, especially every time I watch this performance by Blaine.

1. “Faithfully” – New Directions
Season One, Episode 22 – “Journey To Regionals”

This is probably one of the most beautiful performances I’ve seen on Glee, not to mention I didn’t know of this song’s existence until seeing it on the show. I know, I know, every time I watch the performance or listen to the song, my heart breaks a little. I miss Finn, and watching the chemistry between him and Rachel doesn’t help at all, but I also smile and sing along because the song really does bring back great memories. I mean Season One was an incredible journey for me as it was for the New Directions. This is a definite all-time Glee favorite for me.
