Having worked both with and against America’s C.I.A. in Homeland, Damian Lewis appears to be putting that experience to good use in the film adaptation of John Le Carre’s spy thriller novel Our Kind Of Traitor.

The story follows a young English couple who have a chance meeting with a Russian business man while on holiday. However, not all is as it seems. The businessman, who describes himself as the “world’s number one money launderer,” is on the run from the Russian mafia and wants to enlist the assistance of the British MI6 to protect himself and his family in exchange for information on the crime syndicate. He has gone looking for a Brit who might be able to help him get in touch with MI6 and so the couple get dragged into the murky underworld caught between British Intelligence and the Russian mafia.

Lewis, who we last saw being publicly hanged in Iran in the season 3 finale of Homeland, will be playing a member of the British Intelligence team, according to The Mirror. The other new cast member announced today is Gosford Park actor, Jeremy Northam. They will join Ewan McGregor, Stellan Skarsgard and Naomie Harris.

Deadline reports that shooting on the film begins today. The 10 week shoot will take place in London and around Europe. There has been no word on when we can expect the Susanna White directed film in cinemas.
