While women were once simply a live interest, a damsel to be rescued, or at most a trusty sidekick; females are now dominating hit television series. Now, females are playing scheming and brilliant villains, intelligent service agents, all knowing lawyers, aspiring Broadway stars, heads of huge estates, and more.

The women on television today are truly admirable and groundbreaking in their own rights. It’s hard to count the many kick-ass women on television today, but we managed to round up some of our favourite females who never submit to men, and always follow their hearts and never let men hold them back. These women think for themselves and are driven to achieve greatness.

1) Olivia Pope (SCANDAL)

Olivia Pope may be one of the most troubled women on television right now but she is also one of the fiercest. She almost always saves the case, has a big heart and also has the heart of the president of the united states. She always puts others before herself even if that means putting herself in serious danger. She is stern, never passive, and never rests until a case is solved.

2 & 3) Emily Thorne & Victoria Grayson (REVENGE)

Its hard to pick which one of these revenge ladies is the fiercest, because both have a pretty load roar:

Emily Thorne did time in juvi, was orphaned at a young age, and has dedicated her life to avenging her fathers undeserving arrest and eventual death. She has some sweet martial art moves, a kilker wardrobe, is nt afraid to get some blood on her hands, got shot, suffered amnesia, and is still alive to stick by her revengenda. Most importantly. She has the best sidekick, her best friend billionaire tech wiz nolan Ross.

Victoria Grayson proves that female villains can be fierce. Rarely do we get a cut throat woman as the bad guy. Victoria is fierce because she will do anything for her family, is not afraid to get her hands dirty, never sugar codes anything, and always dresses to the occasion. She can go head to head with any guy (see: husband Conrad Grayson) and nothing gets by her. Victoria knows and thinks of everything.

4) Mrs Hughes (DOWNTON ABBEY)

It’s hard to pick the strongest female on Downton Abbey because almost every woman on that show has proved themselves to be fierce and strong willed. We all know Mary Crawley takes no attitude from anybody, and that nothing gets past the Dowager Countess, but Mrs Hughes goes unnoticed. Her relationship with Carson, her ability to be friendly and authoritative, and the fact she oversees a whole serving staff, are all things that prove just how fierce this woman is.

5) Fiona Gallagher (SHAMELESS)

Being an older sibling is hard, but having to be a mother to your five siblings is close to impossible – especially when you have very very very little money. The fact that Fiona Gallagher keeps all her younger siblings in check, makes sure everyone is fed, and ensures everyones safety, is what makes her fierce. If you are not convinced, Fiona went head to head with her addict father to get custody over her siblings. How’s that for kick-ass for you? Fiona is hardworking, smart and spunky, and one of the strongest females on television right now.

6) Selina Meyers (VEEP)

Selina Meyers is the one and only “Veep” – the fictional Vice President of the United States. Selina is not only fierce because she’s played by the incredible Julia Louis Dreyfuss, but she’s also fierce because she never beats around the bush, is upfront, confrontational, and helps run a huge nation. She is classy yet sassy, and always has the best one liners. Selina’s can-do attitude and willingness to put people in their place makes her the most bad-ass fictional politician around.

7) Felicity Smoke (ARROW)

Your standard tech guy on TV is normally just that – a guy. Oliver mqueens (the green arrow) tech support on arrow is the blonde, beautiful and brilliant Felicity smoke. Felicity is adorable, awkward, spunky and saves oliver more time than he can count. No one can ever talk down to her to get away with it, and she is never afraid to be blunt. Even when terrified felicity always offers to be bait, putting herself in harms way tlfor the better of her city.

8) Regina Mills (ONCE UPON A TIME)

Regina Mills is legitimately an evil queen. Actually, she is THE evil queen. Regina is always one step ahead of everyone else, and never slows down. God forbid someone ever catches up to her level. She literally rips out hearts. but we promise, she is actually sweet. She may be a villain, and a great one at that, but she’s also a mother. Regina’s willingness to go to the ends of the earth for her adopted son Henry always brings us to tears, because he will always return to his birth mother, Emma. Even though Emma is her biggest competition for Henry’s affections and trust, Regina constantly puts her differences aside to work with Emma when he is in danger. Now THAT is fierce.

In a field dominated by males, Carrie flourishes as the only female in her field of work. More importantly, she refuses to be subordinate to the men she is
surrounded by. She always follows her gut instead of blindly taking order from the men in her life. it goes without saying, Carrie is one tough woman. What makes her even more fierce is the fact that she remains headstrong while dealing with her mental illness. Although Carrie is bipolar, she proves time and time again that her instincts are right and she is worthy of her job

We know, we know, Rachel Berry often finds herself in over her head and out of touch with reality. Still, the starlet always comes right back around, apologizing for her mistakes and learning from them. Rachel may have made a few mistakes in her life time, but she always learns from them; t she always has those moments of clarity. That is what being fierce is about – not being perfect, but accepting and learning from mistakes. Rachel has always been a strong woman who knew what she wanted, and she has never stopped working towards her larger than life goals. She has overcome rejection, and tragic loss, but she continues to keep her head up high. Now, a student at NYADA, Rachel is less crazy than before, and a whole lot more focused.
