X-Men fans, get excited over these new character posters featuring everyone’s favorite young and old psychic and master of magnets, James McAvoy, Sir Patrick Stewart, and Michael Fassbender, and Sir Ian McKellen! The images were unveiled this past week via the feature films official Twitter account. The new film brings together the stars from the past X-Men trilogy and the most recent series reboot, X-Men: First Class.
X-Men: Days of Future Past finds the beloved characters, Professor Charles Xavier and friend-turned-enemy, Erik Lehnsherr teaming to change the past and save the future. The film also see’s reprisal roles from Jennifer Lawrence, Halle Berry and everybody’s favorite adamantium clawed bad-boy, Hugh Jackman.
Sadly, Anna Paquine who played Rogue in the original X-Men trilogy, had her part cut from the new film back in December. Director Brian Singer, who helmed 2000’s ground breaking X-Men and 2003’s X2: X-Men United, explained Paquine’s part was cut due to time constraints.
This past Christmas, I was gifted a copy of the Days of Future Past trade paperback collection and had a hard time reading it. From someone who loves comic books, the collection which was published in 1981 by legends Chris Claremont, John Byrne and Terry Austin, is not as exciting as I originally thought. That being said, I’m still looking forward to the film adaptation. I found First Class to be a fresh take on a series that had become too blockbuster oriented instead of character driven, which is the heart of the series and what has made the X-Men team so different from all other superhero teams. For those interested in reading a great X-Men book, I highly recommend Astonishing X-Men Volume One by Joss Whedon and John Cassady. Yes, that Joss Whendon.
X-Men: Days of Future Past hits theaters May 23rd in the U.S. and May 22nd in the U.K.
