Not heard of the actress Greta Gerwig? Well CBS is counting on that not being the case for much longer. Gerwig has just landed the lead role in the How I Met Your Mother spinoff, How I Met Your Dad.

Gerwig has previously been seen as Natalie Portman’s flatmate Patrice in the 2011 rom-com No Strings Attached and as one of Russell Brand’s love interests in 2011’s Arthur. She has also been acknowledged for her work in Greenberg (2010) and Frances Ha (2013), receiving a number of award nominations for her two performances.

In How I Met Your Dad, Gerwig takes on the role of Sally, a “female Peter Pan” type character who in realising that she has nothing in common with her husband of less than a year finds herself with no idea of what she is doing with her life in general.

Not wanting to break with a format that works, the spinoff will also be told from Sally’s point of view though there will be a whole new slew of characters to help her in her journey.

An accomplished writer as well, along with starring in and producing the series, it is expected that she will also contribute to the writing team if the pilot is picked up for a full season.

Viewers will get their first introduction to Sally and some of her friends and family in the series finale of How I Met Your Mother, set to broadcast on March 31.
