The world’s biggest Irish band will perform their song “Ordinary Love” for the very first time at the Academy Awards!
The song, from Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom, is nominated for an Oscar and has already won a Golden-Globe. Also in the nominated category are “Happy” from Despicable Me 2, “Let It Go” from Frozen and “The Moon Song” from Her.
This isn’t the first time the legendary band have been nominated in this category, in 2002, they were also nominated for “The Hands That Built America” from Gangs of New York.
You may be wondering why U2 haven’t exactly been front page news over the past few years. Their last album was released all the way back in 2009. Since that release, they have been working on other projects and, as Bono puts it, “getting to know the bands’ roots again.”
Their upcoming album, which is apparently heavily influenced by the bands that influenced them as young musicians, will be released soon. There is no set date as of yet but we do know the album is being produced by Danger Mouse!
The Oscars will air on March 2 and will be hosted by the amazing Ellen DeGeneres!
